The objective of this laboratory experiment is to evaluate a compound gear train used as a mechanical timer to determine the following:    i) overall gear train ratio experimentally ii) number of teeth on each gear in the gear train, iii) number of drive gears and number of driven gears for input mechanism and output mechanism. iv) overall gear train ratio analytically using information from ii) and iii) v) comparison of experimental and analytical gear train ratios including error and sensitivity analysis to inform differences between the two results. vi)  an alternative practical design for a mechanical timer is to achieves the same function as the original mechanical timer.
