Engaging Indigenous Communities: Resources, Rebellions, and Resurgence is a collection of papers drawn from a conference that reflected on the honour, spirit, and intention of those who signed the 1850 Robinson Treaties. Each individual paper looks at the historical and contemporary relation between Indigenous peoples, Settlers, and the colonial state in North America and India as well as how people have interacted or engaged with one another in a variety of circumstances. Specifically, the authors in this volume seek to address instances where Indigenous peoples have engaged the colonial projects or contested its goals, while seeking equality and positive relationships. It is through the telling of stories, that are largely unknown outside of specific Indigenous communities, that the papers are engaging with the decolonial process by participating in the process of the resurgence and restorying of Indigenous histories and knowledges. It is only through works, such as those contained within this volume, that decolonization and reconciliation can occur.
