The information provided is minimalistic, which is not necessarily bad--particularly for an entry-level class--but there are just too many factual faults and oversights. It's a problem that so much of the taxonomy is outdated. It's also a problem that basic cladistics are often ignored--how is it that tetrapods are not included as part of the Sarcopterygii? The language can be weak, as in "Data now suggest that birds belong within the reptile clade," and the grouping of animals based on coelomic organization really has no place unless it is identified as a tempting but archaic concept. There's more, but how much time do I want to put into enumerating the faults? After reviewing the animals chapter it's clear that it compares very poorly with the general biology text currently in use at our college. I consider this Openstax resource to be unsuitable for the new class that I am developing.
