Herzberg's Motivators and Hygiene Factors

Herzberg's Motivators and Hygiene Factors

This is a clever graphic that illustrates Herzberg's motivators and hygiene factors. They are illustrated in connection to a rocket ship and launchpad. One might also want to share the data available on the importance of each factor at the following site: http://www.businessballs.com/herzbergmotivationdiagram.pdf

This is one of many graphics that are available on the web to illustrate Hertzberg's theory. The concept of hygiene factors serving as a launchpad that are necessary to provide a foundation for motivation - but are not sufficient to attain it - is a useful analogy. However, the depiction of the motivator factors as the fuel in the rocket necessary to attain motivation is useful, but seems to imply (the way the graphic is designed) that there is a hierarchy among the motivator factors. I don't think that is the author's intention, but this could be a reasonable interpretation by students. I would suggest that a note be incorporated to explain that this is not a fixed hierarchy if the graphic is used.

Although this is an interesting and fun way to graph Herzberg's motivator and hygiene factors I would have liked to have seen additional explanation and application for students to learn from.

Technical Remarks:

The content is correctly applied to Herzberg's Motivator and Hygiene Factors.
