Students select two wealth amounts (e.g., a billionaire's fortune vs. a median income) and one of four comparison types (daily spending duration, physical stack height, purchasing power, or compound-interest growth) to receive an exact, deterministic result. Results are computed from cited public sources with published formulas.
Learning goals: (1) interpret and compare quantities across orders of magnitude; (2) apply ratios, exponents/scientific notation, and compound growth; (3) translate abstract quantities into concrete referents; (4) evaluate data sources and distinguish computed results from editorial framing. Fits inequality and stratification units in introductory economics and sociology, quantitative-reasoning courses, and high school economics/civics/financial literacy; the free, no-authentication JSON API (with published OpenAPI specification) also serves as a clean first exercise in introductory programming courses.
Figures are actively maintained against major data releases (Forbes World's Billionaires List, Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, etc). The tool runs in any modern browser on any device with nothing to install, requires no accounts or logins, shows no ads, and collects no student data. Content is licensed CC BY 4.0 for reuse in course materials with attribution.
