1. Introduction

The first week of the INSF Transmission Practitioner Education Program provides participants with an overall introduction to Northern Ssireum before beginning detailed technical education.

The purpose of Week 1 is not to teach participants a large number of physical techniques. Instead, participants are expected to first understand the historical identity, cultural context, transmission process, and educational direction of Northern Ssireum.Traditional physical culture cannot be understood only through physical movement. A technique exists within a wider context that includes history, cultural memory, methods of transmission, physical training, and the people who have preserved and practiced the tradition.

For this reason, the first stage of education begins with the question:What is Northern Ssireum, and why should it be studied and transmitted today? By understanding this broader context, participants will be better prepared to study the theoretical, comparative, and technical subjects introduced during the following weeks.
