PowerLab provides an open-access computational modeling and simulation laboratory for higher-education electrical engineering, distributed energy resources (DER), and building science curricula.

The suite features 30 deterministic calculators grounded in IEEE (IEEE 1547, IEEE 485, IEEE 446), NFPA 70 / NEC 2023, and NREL System Advisor Model (SAM) physical formulations. Core laboratory simulation modules include:

1. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Dynamic Peukert electrochemical capacity derating across variable C-rate discharge regimes, internal resistance degradation, and thermal reserve windows.2. Power Conversion Electronics: Full inverter efficiency curve modeling, idle tare losses, and inductive motor locked rotor amperage (LRA) starting surge analysis.3. Photovoltaic Engineering: Sub-zero Voc open-circuit voltage expansion under cold ambient conditions, ground view factor snow albedo reflections, and multi-orientation tilt optimization.4. Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE): 125% continuous-duty branch circuit ampacity sizing, 75°C conductor terminal limits under NEC 110.14(C), and thermal enclosure dissipation.5. Cold-Climate Heat Pumps: Temperature-dependent COP decay kinetics, balance point trajectories, and resistive auxiliary heat staging.

All tools execute deterministically in browser-local state with visible equations, transparent physical constants, and reproducible derivations without user registration barriers or database tracking.
