This free, self-paced course helps nonprofit leaders recognise that hidden work and decide what to do about it.

Based on a qualitative analysis of 5,705 public r/nonprofit posts, the course explores how committed people keep work moving—and when that extra effort creates strain or risk. The research offers insight into people’s experiences, not a representative survey of the nonprofit sector.

The course includes 38 minutes of video learning and a participant handbook with practical exercises.

Participants learn how to:

• Recognise recurring workarounds, unwritten steps and reliance on one key person.
• Separate a visible problem from the extra work keeping it under control.
• Map one real problem, including who carries the work and its hidden cost.
• Choose a practical response and set a clear 30-day action.

Designed for nonprofit leaders, operations managers, staff leads and board members. It can also support teaching in nonprofit management and organisational development. No specialist technical knowledge is required.
