Umlaut Letters is a free online tool for copying and typing German umlauts and the sharp S. With one click, learners can copy Ä ä Ö ö Ü ü ß and paste them into essays, emails, messages, and worksheets, without changing a keyboard layout. The site also explains keyboard shortcuts for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices, and provides Unicode, Alt code, and HTML code reference pages, with character pages for German and other accented letters. It is designed for German learners, teachers, and writers who need accurate spelling quickly, in class or at home. The tool is free to use and requires no signup. It was created by Umlaut Letters, a California studio founded in 2026 by Hetal Jani. A companion open-access paper is available at Zenodo (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23724810) and is also listed on MERLOT.
