History of Theatre in Cesky Krumlov

History of Theatre in Cesky Krumlov

A brief history of theatre in this town in the Czech Republic. Most importantly is a link to the theatre at Cesky Krumlov Castle, where several ipix movies show the full theatre, as well as the machinery that ran the scenery of this Baroque theatre. There is also a clickable map that links to detailed information, pictures and movies of the various areas of the theatre and auditorium.

This website, at http://www.castle.ckrumlov.cz/docs/en/zamek_5nadvori_bd.xml, provides information and ipix video of the auditorium and machinery at this Castle Theater which dates from the 18th century.

I was introduced to this material as part of a conference about the potential for reconstructing an American 18th century theater in Virginia.  Since then, I have used the videos as resources to demonstrate mechanical scene shifting in my theatre history classes.
