Lecture 4: Cancer and Stem Cells
This video was recorded at Lecture Series by Howard Cedar: Epigenetics and Methylation. Professor Cedar explains the role of DNA methylation in cancer and stem cells. While initially many people thought that in cancer there was less DNA methylation, it turns out not to be so simple. Presenting a serious of experiments and hypotheses, Dr. Cedar shows how each tissue and cancer type are different. Moreover, he demonstrates which factors are important in the regulation of epigenetic signaling in cancer. Additionally, he connects the regulation of methylation in cancer to stem cell regulation by showing that many of the regulatory pathways are similar and are connected to differentiation.
