This video was recorded at Matematični kolokviji in javna predavanja DMFA na Fakulteti za Matematiko in Fiziko. English: Symmetry is a word fraught with many meanings, both technical and personal. In art, there is no better exemplar than the Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher (1898-1972) through which to explore these meanings. Through his work, we explore these aspects of symmetry: balance, duality, regularity, invariance, repetition, economy, closure. Not only does Escher's work provide intriguing depictions and uses of symmetry, but it also raises some interesting mathematical questions about symmetry.
