This is a profile of an ePortfolio project at California State University, Sacramento, and Cosumnes River College for first-year seminar students and transfer students prepared for a forthcoming report, Innovations in General Education: Giving California Students a Compass. The project included a "base folio" for first-year studentsto reflect analytically, self-assess, set goals and build their identities as students, learners, collaborators and citizens and a transfer folio to demonstrate students' writing proficiency. Students who successfully complete the writing proficiency folio could use it in place of a writing test.
