Material Detail

The purpose of this site is to provide all the materials required for a high school biology class unit on Mitochondrial Form and Function, incorporating approaches used in the Rafelski lab, a biological research lab at the University of California, Irvine. The materials include three lesson presentations, accompanying assessment quizzes, hands-on activities, and videos. All materials may be used freely for educational purposes.

Materials include:

- a Mitochondria lesson, including pre- and post-lesson quizzes and a board game activity

- a Budding Yeast Model Organisms lesson, including pre- and post-lesson quizzes

- a Microscopes lesson, including pre- and post-lesson quizzes

- two hands-on activities on 3D microscope image reconstruction

- an essay assignment on Mitochondrial diseases

- three videos as part of a virtual Rafelski Lab tour
