This lesson plan, provided by the Ohio Department of Education, introduces the concept of homeostasis. This activity is intended for students in 11th grade. Students will learn about various examples of negative feedback mechanisms in the human body such as blood pressure, body temperature and blood sugar. They will identify the receptor, the control center and the effector and explain how the negative feedback mechanisms serve to maintain homeostasis. The lesson plan includes a step by step instructional procedure and a student pre-assessment and is intended to take three hours and twenty minutes of class time.
