In this video, Dr. Michelle Thaller, of the Spitzer Science Center, uses an infrared camera to demonstrate what our world would look like if you could see infrared radiation. Dr. Thaller explores everyday items such as ice cream and hairdryers in the infrared, and brings an infrared camera to the Los Angeles Zoo. The Pasadena Fire Department demonstrates that infrared light can see through smoke-filled rooms, enabling firefighters to rescue people trapped inside. A brief description of infrared astronomy is given, including views of the constellation Orion and the possibility of detecting exoplanets in infrared light.
