What Time is it? Exploring Earth's Time Zones
This site, part of Exploring Earth Investigation by McDougal Littell and TERC, examines how time zones are determined and will help students understand Earth's different time zones. These investigations "were designed to build students' knowledge of Earth Science conceptsand to raise student awareness of Earth as a system of interconnected components and processes." Here, visitors can find lessons on standard time zones, traveling and communicating across time zones, Earth's sunrises and sunsets, sundials, and using time to find your geographic position. Many sections have illustrative images and interactive features, which help students, understand the topics presented, and the final section ends with questions for students to further explore as well as a links to other time zone exercises. This is an excellent site for any Earth Science classroom as an introductory lecture or as an out-of-class exploration for students.
