Cancer statistics, 2011

Currently, one in 4 deaths in the United States is due to cancer. This article provides the expected numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the US in 2011, as well as an overview of cancer statistics, including updated incidence, mortality, and survival rates and trends. It estimates the total number of deaths averted as a result of the decline in cancer death rates since the early 1990s and quantifies the impact of eliminating racial and socioeconomic disparities on premature deaths from cancer in 2007.
