Quaternary Benzo[c]phenanthridine Alkaloids2Novel Cell Permeant and Red Fluorescing DNA Probes

This research article explores the possibility of several naturally occuring alkaloids to be utilized for cell staining. These alkaloids are present in several families of plants, including Papaveraceae (poppy), and have flourescent properties. Cell-staining was successful with some of the alkaloids, one of which was able to stain nucleic acid.
