Many organizations across the country have worked to address the health crises related to diet. In study after study, we learn that residents in low income rural and urban neighborhoods experience higher rates of obesity and diet related diseases. As a result, these communities are negatively impacted by a lack of access to affordable and nutritious foods, commonly known as food deserts. Despite efforts by hundreds of organizations and agencies working to find a solution to the obesity epidemic, the growing problem of food deserts continues to exist and many underserved communities are still left behind.
