The primary purpose for this lesson plan is to establish a framework for an individual's family tree using the resources available on Ancestry. This lesson includes a brief description of what Ancestry is, what it has to offer, and some useful tips to have the best experience. An experienced member demonstrated how they use the site to find and create their family tree after which the discussion was opened to the class to take volunteers and allow for questions. This lesson demonstrates how to use an organized system, primary documentation, and possible categorization schemas as well as some controlled vocabulary systems. By the end of the session, students should have working knowledge of how to use Ancestry to locate their family members.
