The purpose for this lesson plan is to make it to where the audience can navigate Ancestry and its resources, be able to retrieve information for a family tree on their own, and be aware of the pros and cons of the site. This lesson includes a brief description of what Ancestry is, what it has to offer, and some useful tips to have the best experience. Members of the group shared information that they researched and familiarized themselves with. This included an experienced member demonstrating how to navigate Ancestry, sharing some downfalls, and asking a volunteer to provide information of a relative. This lesson demonstrates how to use an organized system, primary documentation, and possible categorization schemas as well as some controlled vocabulary systems. The goal of this workshop is for each member of the audience to have the ability to develop a framework of a family tree.
