He Jiankui, a scientist in China has managed to modify the CCR5 gene of embryos in order to make the white blood cells immune to HIV when the father was HIV positive. This change to the embryos will be passed down to the embryo's children(when they are older if they have children) and is permanent so their children will also be immune to HIV.
