The research included in this 2015-2023 literature review reveals significant positive impacts of Quality Matters Standards on student outcomes, faculty satisfaction and self-efficacy, and course design. Students in QM-certified or QM-redesigned courses demonstrated improved academic performance, with increased grades and completion rates. Moreover, students value good course organization and embedded support, critical in well-structured learning environments. They appreciated engaging course activities, interaction, transparent learning objectives, and smooth technology integration, though accessibility remained a consistent concern.Faculty and instructional designers reported many benefits from QM professional development. Participation in QM training increased instructors' confidence in online teaching and enhanced their understanding of intentional course design.

This systematic review aims to assess and discuss how QM tools and processes have been applied to improve online learning as reported in the academic literature from July 2015 to December 2023. The review will inform the QM community, prospective researchers and designers, instructors, and online learning practitioners.
