Ecology Explorers

Ecology Explorers gives Phoenix area K-12 students and teachers opportunities to do real scientific research. Local students and teachers participate in the Central Arizona - Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAP LTER) project being carried out by CAP LTER scientists. However, this web site is not just for Phoenix area students and teachers. This web site leads anyone through the first two steps of scientific investigation. 1) Provides data collection techniques (protocols) used by scientists. 2) Collect initial data, using the "protocols" published on the web site. The site has well developed lesson plans that can be followed to collect initial data. Once these initial data are collected, it helps students and teachers look for patterns in the data and then develop their own hypotheses and experiments. Additional interactive Flash animations make this site a great tool for teachers and is engaging and fun for students.
