A living map for International Business: real company sites - HQs, factories, ports, R&D labs, and markets - explored through photos, data, and Street View. What it is: Think of it like a "field trip map" for an International Business course. Instead of students just reading about companies in a textbook, they get an interactive Google Map (currently titled "A Virtual Field Trip to Global Business") where every pin is a real, physical place, an actual headquarters, factory, port, or research lab, that they can click on, zoom into, and even peek at with Street View. How it's organized: The map has 6 "layers" (like folders) that group pins by business theme: Headquarters & Global Strategy: corporate HQs (Apple, Google, Nike, Walmart, Amazon, and more) Production & Supply Chains: factories (Toyota, Samsung, Foxconn, Boeing, Tesla, and more) Innovation & R&D: research and tech hubs (TSMC, Infosys, Pfizer, and more) Markets & Consumer Strategy: retail and market sites (IKEA Shanghai, Alibaba, and more) Trade, Ports & Infrastructure: logistics chokepoints (Suez Canal, Panama Canal, Port of Rotterdam, Maersk HQ, and more) Ethics, Risk & Sustainability: corporate responsibility flashpoints (Rio Tinto mining, Shell Nigeria, Nestlé, and more) What each pin does: Click any pin and you get a mini lesson written in a consistent format: WHAT: what's actually there WHY HERE: why the company picked that exact location IB CONCEPT: the textbook concept it illustrates, such as vertical integration, trade chokepoints, or EMNE globalization DISCUSSION: a thought provoking question for class debate What it's capable of, or how it can be used: Students can "visit" 20+ real company sites around the world without leaving the classroom. Instructors can use it to anchor lectures. For example, they can look at the Suez Canal pin and talk about supply chain risk. It's a living document, so new companies and sites can be added indefinitely, and it updates live in Google Drive. Since it's a shareable Google My Maps link, it can be embedded, shared with a class, or explored individually by students at their own pace. Basically: it's Google Maps turned into an interactive, self guided textbook chapter for global business education. Conceived and Developed by Professor Babu George.
