The Making of England is an open, university-oriented digital humanities learning resource exploring how a more unified English kingdom emerged from the political, military and social transformations of the late ninth and early tenth centuries. The collection combines an approximately eight-minute documentary with maps, primary-source excerpts, source-analysis activities, historiographical materials, discussion questions and university teaching resources. It brings together written, archaeological, numismatic, cartographic and other evidence while distinguishing evidence, interpretation and visual reconstruction and leaving contested historical questions open for further investigation.
