Deterministic Chaos

Deterministic Chaos

This video was recorded at COIN / PlanetData Winter School on Knowledge Technologies for Complex Business Environments, Ljubljana 2011. The discovery of deterministic chaos that even simple deterministic dynamical system can exhibit complex, random-like behavior is considered as one of the most important in the 20th century. Chaos has been encountered in natural sciences, economics, social sciences and engineering. Notably, chaos theory complements and contributes to mathematical and empirical modeling, prediction and system control. The aim of the talk is to introduce the idea of deterministic chaos in an informal manner. Still, terms like dynamical system, determinism, nonlinearity, instability and sensitivity to initial conditions are introduced. Rather than giving mathematical... Show More
