This video was recorded at The Next Step: Project Architecture 2009 - Ljubljana. In this lecture I plan to show why it's necessary to ask ourselves today about the possibilities of continuing to practice architecture as a project; that is, as a practice of architectural transformation of reality. Current practice shows that the project of architecture continues. The problem, however, is that the two predominant views on architecture today – the understanding of architecture as a continuous self-invention; and as a service of one of its conditions, be this market or social reform – both foreclose the possibility of such thinking. In this lecture I will try to pose an alternative to both views: an architecture that invents itself yet always against and within a wide range of conditions within which it is made.
