The Journal of General Education published a special issue (Volume 57, Number 1, 2008) on eportfolios. The introduction by William H Rickards provides a very good and timely overview of where we (higher education) are with electronic portfolio adoption. He reviews the history of portfolio use including their role in developing writing and communication skills, their use by teacher education candidates, and the potential in continuing professional development.
