The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of ViolencePrevention (DVP) and Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) developedseveral ACE and PCE questions for inclusion on the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey(YRBS) optional question list. DVP funded sites to include one of two tiers ofACE/PCE questions: Tier 1 (containing eight core ACE questions) or Tier 2 (containingeight core ACE questions, two past-year core ACE incidence questions, threeexpanded ACE questions, and three PCE questions) (Figure 1). DVP-developedACE/PCE questions complement the standard list of items traditionally included inYRBS. Some of these standard items, such as bullying, sexual violence, and peerviolence, measure expanded ACEs.
