The Ted-Talk provides an alternative viewpoint to certain viruses which encase their potential to fight bacterial infections. Alexander Belcredi raises awareness and provides basic information on the use of phages in fighting bacterial infections. He highlights the bioweapon against bacterial infections as a superhero and regards phage therapy to be on the verge of a new renaissance. Despite the potential, he explains the reasons why phage therapy has not been a treatment: the lack of evidence and knowledge. The start of phage therapy died down with the invention of antibiotics like penicillin, which became widely known and accepted. It became the standard of Western medicine and paused the development of phage therapy. It resulted in an overuse of antibiotics that caused resistance in bacteria and a lack of clinical trials that prevented phages from becoming an alternative treatment immediately.
