Figure 6 from The Threat of MRSA, shows a web diagram on the transmission of MRSA infections. The diagram reveals the difficulty of distinguishing MRSA strains that originate in hospitals, communities, or lifestocks due to the complicated connections. It can be seen in the web, the far left depicts a pig which can transfer MRSA to the farmworkers and through its meat in improper cooking. CA-MRSA are present on farms but also in houses while HA-MRSA are also present on farms but also hospitals. People that contract MRSA in hospitals may be able to bring the bacteria home and transmit it to family members and pets. The whole web is connected and with no way of telling the origin or end of a bacteria strain.
