They created an artificial cerebral cortex in a lab. They grow brain organoids from stem cells. All it takes is a slight nudge to get them to start growing into a brain. The neurons have the potential to revolutionize computing because they are much more energy efficient. This allows us to possibly replace mechanical computers in the future.
