This is a profile of the process and outcomes of General Education (GE) curriculum redesign at California State University, Los Angeles,  prepared for a forthcoming report, "Innovations in General Education: Giving California Students a Compass." Notable features of the new curriculum include: 1) GE learning outcomes aligned with the LEAP Essential Learning Outcomes (www.aacu.org/leap); 2) a civic/service learning requirements; 3) expanded writing requirements; 4) a diversity outcome; 5) an integrated interdisciplinary science option; and 6) optional thematic GE pathways on pressing social and global problems, leading to a minor.
